Tony Giorgio and his wife advocated a fair chance at life to ensure treatments in crucial moments.  Now they have taken their passion forward to focus on the needs in those we find spiritually poor. It is that passion that caused them to develop a ministry called Compassion For Kids locally here in Haywood County, N.C.

Tony says, "We notice a different type of "disease" in our youth today."  The focus now is less on making financial obligations and more on connecting the spritual dots with young people. Tony says, "Due to society's way of thinking we have broken homes, with single parents, working two jobs trying to make ends meet."  The burden of that parent is multiplied because they are often alone in providing the attention and spiritual care their child needs.  Tony notes, "Schools can only do so much during class.  Education is important, but life skills are just as important."  Through powerful mentorships, and direct connections with youth great things can be accomplished.  But as Tony emphatically declares, "There is a mentor by their side every day of their young lives named Jesus."

Working with the Salvation Army locally Tony and Laureen got to know some of these youth on a first name basis and had many talks with them. Students expressed the futility in life they felt, and the deep shadow of purposelessness looming over them.  When they see no future at all, they feel alone, abandoned, and they form spiritual concepts based on feelings of despair.  Sadly, the center closed its doors and many of these young people are now forging their spiritual way forward without the guidance and support that gives eternal hope.

That is why Compassion For Kids Ministry feels that a Youth Center is very much needed in Haywood County.  Tony says, "We want to allow them to express their feelings freely, teach life skills and, most important of all, let them know their value through Jesus."  A Compassion For Kids Youth Ministry Center would not be an aggressive sell, but rather a place that communicates the heart of Jesus' love for others.

With a culture that so clearly shows the results of selfishness, spiritual ambiguity, and the lack of life skills in so many areas, Compassion For Kids wants to radically create people who love and live differently.  Tony says, "Imagine what it would be like to have a customer service person, who loves Jesus and has been taught to "Love thy neighbor as thyself".  What a difference it would make in their personal lives as they act as a reservoir to teach their family and loved ones what they have learned.  Our youth are the most valuable resource we have.  They deserve our love and guidance.
